2012 Trek Fuel EX 5

Open up a whole new level of action and step up your trail skills with Trek's Fuel EX 5. Featuring Trek's Full Floater and ABP suspension technology, the Fuel feels like it has way more than its 120mm of travel in the rough stuff, and when you're pedaling hard on smooth trails, it's wonderfully quick and lively. Its RockShox fork and shock combo make the hits simply disappear underneath your wheels. Complementing the trick frame is a slick-shifting SRAM drivetrain, a host of durable Bontrager components and powerful Hayes disc brakes for maximum stopping power regardless of the conditions. Plus, the light Bonty wheels and tires tackle buffed-out singletrack, rocky gardens and everything in between with style.

    Comments:

I've taken this bike thru sheer torture since purchased new at Victorville cycles on 9/17, and it still comes back for more. From 8 mile fire-road downhills, to technical single trail, this bike does it all. Still have yet to retune, since it's just that solid. I love it!

      Comments:

Ride urban trails, XC and single track and love bike as it is capable, fast and shifts smoothly. Stock tires are loud at speed on pavement and not very good in mud. Replace if planning to ride muddy trails and climb slippery slopes. I noticed a slight rear disk squeal first day and minor front disk rubbing under fast hard cornering on hard surfaces. Minor issues overall compared to upside of this bike. Ride bike 4/5 times per week 80-160 km.

I have the 2010 model and this bike looks and handels great for the money, I upgraded to XT wheeels so far and will upgrade more of the low end components for better performance and a lighter bike.

        Comments:

This is BY FAR the best bang for your buck. I bought this bike back in January of 2010 and have put over 300 miles on it. I was contemplating getting the ex8 or 7 but I'm glad i didn't. My riding partner has the ex8 and my bike keeps up with his EASILY. It weighs the same as the ex8 and has pretty much the same components. The drivetrain has never skipped on me and it has been through sopping wet clay in San Diego. I'm glad Trek put the EVO link and ABP on their entry level bike. This bike takes the single-track and downhill bumps like a pro and the bumps just disappear. The only complaint i have on this bike is the brakes fade out when they get warm, but hey, what are front brakes for?? DON'T spend an extra [$]+ on going up a model. This bike is awesome and I'm no beginner.

          Comments:

I traded in my K2 hardtail for this full suspension engineering machine. The engineers behind this bike knew exactly what they were doing when they created this bike. Like my neighbor said to me,"the only bike you will ever need, unless you are going to do it professionally." I took it out for the first time about three weeks ago and it kicked butt on the uphill and downhill. It almost felt like it was gliding through the trail. The shifting of the gears was fast and reliable. Buy this bike! It won't let you down! The cannondale or specialized do not feel the same. Go with a Trek you won't regret it.

            Comments:

I'm 17 years old, but I have raced BMX for years and am already an avid 14 year cycling veteran. I am an extremely aggressive rider and my past bikes have taken a beating. I moved to mountain biking and was immediately blown away by this bike. It glided over THREE good size logs in a row down the side of a very steep hill without a problem, on any other bike I would have been a goner! Though I am 5'4" and 140lbs, the 19.5 I bought handles like a dream. I was able to take it to the private ATV track near my house and man can this thing fly! It's a lot lighter than it looks, and not only that... but I was very impressed with the smooth landing. I am so much more confident riding on this bike! I'm able to take it places I have never gone before... but then hop back on the pavement for a nice (and still comfortable) 10 mile cruise. Another extremely convenient feature on this bike is the adjustable fork. With literally a twist of a small knob I can completely transform my bike. INSANE. It was worth every penny! If you're looking to do some hardcore trail riding, free riding, or down hilling but don't want to empty out your wallet... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BIKE!
